Why We Are In Kenya:

Kenya is a gateway country to East Africa.. We have found that God is using Kenya to bring us closer to the unreached peoples of Sudan and Somalia. Because of the establishment of refugee camps Kenya is being used by God as a place of refuge for the persecuted peoples of Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

God started pointing us in the direction of Kenya in 1996. We were not sure why because our focus was on Nigeria and Kenya is considered to be an evangelized country. God began to show us how Kenya is a gateway to the surrounding countries that have been politically and religiously closed off to the world. He placed on us a vision to see thousands of indigenous missionaries being trained through the national church and sent out from Kenya. He began to put into our path key people from Kenya. We began a partnership that has informed thousands of their responsibility to world missions and trained indiginous missionaries to begin a wave of sending out missionaries that will bring the truth to East Africa.

Our programs are generated by the indigenous Church. We attempt to fulfill the vision that God has placed on their hearts as we merge our hearts together.

Kenya Programs:

Adopt-A-Missionary

The responsibility of the Kenyan church would be to identify and target an unreached peoples' group (primarily in northern Kenya, Somalia, or Sudan) and to send out a missionary from their own congregation. They would provide spiritual oversight and comfort for the missionary and be willing to host a short-term team from the States and assist with the logistics for such a trip. They would also contribute for their missionary's support.

The church group we are working with, the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (which represents over 2000 churches in Kenya) wasted no time in fulfilling their end of the deal. They started by selecting a group of 20 out of the 61 who responded and have been spending the last year training them. By the end of their training, we still had not been able to find sponsors from the U.S. side. PEFA waited for a few more months, but when we still were not able to find the sponsors, they sent out that first group of 20 with only $150/month per family!! The cause of taking the gospel to people who had never heard it became a "fire shut up in their bones."

Now I want you to consider a minute what this kind of sacrifice means for a Kenyan missionary. The average Kenyan pastor makes $100/month. This is an average of both those who labor in the cities and in rural areas. Even at best, this provides only a subsistence level of living. Consider that these courageous brethren have been willing to accept half of their normal salary, pack up their wives and children and take dangerous journeys over treacherous terrain. At times they must travel by lorry, riding outside on top of huge transport trucks. At other times they must walk for many miles. They have done all this with love and joy and gratitude for the privilege of taking the Name of Jesus where He has not been named before. But friends, as Americans and as Christians, their example ought to stir us up to good works. Our faith is absolutely without meaning if it does not conceive and give birth to faithfulness to the cause of Christ.

The first group of 100 missionaries are in need of sponsors. Won't you prayerfully consider this? I know how many resources we waste as Americans. For most churches or even a cell group, pledging $75/month does not represent sacrifice. It just takes making a choice to be faithful. We urge you to take a plunge into the depths of God's faithfulness as you sow this seed. Their next group of missionaries is ready to begin training and preparing to be sent out.
