Name: Taiwo & Appolonia ALUKO
Children: Deborah (5 years) and James (3 + years).
Profession before the Call to Missions : Taiwo (Civil Engineer), Appolonia (Biochemist).
Missionary Assignments before Togo: Cross-cultural church-planted among the Dukawwas and Kamukus in Northern Nigeria. These are unreached people groups within the 10/40 window.
Tribe presently working among: The Akebou tribe , in the Pleataeu Region of Togo. These are mainly an animist tribe found in mountainous areas.
Village Located: Afidenyingba, Togo, West Africa
The work so far: The Alukos began the work among the Akebous in November, 1998. After about 6 weeks of pre-conversion teachings from compound to compound a church was planted in Afidenyingba. Today the church has grown to a total of 50 members. Outreaches have also been carried out in various surrounding villages. And recently another church-planting work has been started in Saraga, another village.
The encouraging part of the work has been the testimonies of its effect upon life. The testimonies of changed lives has helped even those who are still standing on the fence in terms of deciding for Jesus to know that what we preach is real.
The reality of the power of the gospel has also been very evident. For example on evening after visiting and praying for a sick woman in her hut, her brother who keeps all his idols in that room came back to discover that they were no longer potent. There had been a power encouter and Jesus has been proved Lord. This and several other demonstrations of God's power has helped these new converts to be bold in their faith. For example, one day the witch-doctors announced that all the villagers must go sleep in the bush but these new believers defied this order and to the glory of God the gods could not harm them at all.
The converts have erected a shed for church service and are looking unto God to be able to put up a proper church building next year. There is a big need for a means of mobility to facilitate this work and for funds to complete the church building. There is trust in God that this work will continue to grow.
Present needs are:
- Monthly support for family of $250.00 per month.
- $1000 to build a church building.
- $1000 for a motorbike or $100 for a bicycle. (but remember there are four of them)
- $50 per month for field expenditures.
Please pray for the Alukos.
Chimezie & Ibidun Onyebilanma
Children (3): Adaonu, girl(8), Sinmi, girl(7), Hudson, boy (3) as of 2002
Country of Origin: Nigeria
Country Called to Minister to: Togo
Chimezie and Ibidun are missionaries with Calvary Ministries (CAPRO), in Togo. They are presently in charge of co-ordinating CAPRO thrust among the remainig unreached peoples of Togo. Chimezie is the National Co-ordinator of CAPRO in Togo.
Objectives &; Goals: (1) To raise up and train more Togolese missionaries for the unreached peoples of Togo. (2) To coordinate our crusade to indigenous churches planted among the unreached peoples. (2) We would like to raise 10 new missionaries to be sent for our cross-cultural missionary training each year.
We arrived in Togo 1998, but prior to Togo, we worked among a tribe called the Gbagyis in the rural interiors of Kaduna, a state in Nigeria for about 2 years. Togo is a small country but it has many of unreached peoples in the central and northern regions of the country.
We are Directors of the ministry of Calvary Ministries (CAPRO) or the Mission Evangelique du Calvaire as it is known in French. Calvary Ministries is a missions agency dedicated to taking the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the remaining tribes of people still without it. We seek to evangelize and plant indigenous churches among these peoples and our focus is on the tribes within the 10/40 windows in Africa, particularly among the Muslims. Calvary Ministries does this by recruiting, training and sending missionaries among these peoples. We start by doing research to know the state of the evangelization of the different tribes in a particular country.
Presently, 11 tribes in Togo have been researched while research into others is underway. We then use this information to mobilize missionaries to enable them to enter these unreached tribes and begin evangelization until we see an indigenous church planted. After we have raised up indigenous leadership, we hand over the church to them and move on. None of the Calvary Ministries staff members are paid a salary or any allowance. We all depend on God through His people to meet our needs.
Mission Evangelique du Calvaire Training Center
This center is under construction and we need your help to finish. We are presently using this facility and have already graduated two missionary classes.
Please remember to pray for us as we continue our work to the people of Togo.
